The Association of Professional Landscapers
The Association of Professional Landscapers was founded in 1994, by a small group of landscapers under the guidance of Master Landscaper Alan Sargent.
Keith J Southall is a founder member of the Association and was voted national chairman in 1997-98. The ideals of the group were to raise the image of professional landscapers and also to assist the public in finding trustworthy, vetted contractors. The association promotes professional ideals to guide the general public and set a standard within the industry.
Modern landscaping is a very diverse industry requiring many varied skills and disciplines. Its exponents must understand the nature and techniques involved in using both inert and living materials. A unique profession; a landscape contractor is a pavier, bricklayer, carpenter, metal worker, motor mechanic as well as a plants person, grounds worker and aquatics expert. Members must understand soils, chemicals and climatic conditions; Above all they must be professional gardeners.

Why Choose an APL Member?
To become a member of the Association of Professional Landscapers a Company must pass a stringent vetting procedure and, ensuring that a Company remains a credit to the Association, random re-vetting is carried out. Member companies must also carry adequate insurance cover, and operate a well organised and trained staff. Naturally some contractors will specialise in one or more types of work.
