Wander through three
acres of beautifully landscaped gardens situated in the picturesque Worcestershire
countryside. The gardens surround a
17th
century cottage which once stood in the grounds of the Bishop of Worcester's
estate.
The house has served many purposes over the last three centuries. In early
years it was a coach house for the estate and later the home of the housekeeper
and butler of Whitlenge House, which the cottage stands in the grounds
of. It has also been the village dairy and in late Victorian years housed
three separate families. The house also has a resident from centuries
past who we call "Albert" although we now think it may be "Albertine",
but that's a story you will have to ask us when you visit!
Walk through the twisted pillar pergola, which is planted with fan trained apples and pears and is a picture all year round - especially in the spring when our crocus walk is also in full bloom.

We have a large bog garden with the gigantic leaves of Gunnera (some six
feet across) from mid summer through to Autumn.
The water
features have grown every year and now comprises of 3 pools and a
small stream, all built by our own students. There are also millstone
and cobble bubblers, and several wall and floor waterfeatures. There really
is something for all sizes of garden, from a courtyard/wall to cascading
banks.
At the front of the house we have a scree garden that incorporates the
cobble
bubbler feature and also our Green
man fountain, the inspiration for which is the English god of the
wild wood, and was created by the artist Rodney Munday.
We also have a wrought iron gazebo, which is the perfect place to sit
and take tea and cake in high summer. For the children we are building
up a pet's
corner with rare breed chickens, ducks and geese that wander free
around the adventure playground.
The gardens are planted with over 800 varieties of mature trees, shrubs,
perennials, alpines, heather's etc, chosen to give all year round colour
and interest, with a large percentage being botanically labelled with
Kew style professionally engraved labels which can be purchased through
us from Star
Trophies.

We have now redesigned and refurbished the Celtic garden into a sancturary
for English herbs, with camomile pathways enticing you to kick off your
shoes and walk on them, releasing the wonderful calming fragrance The
whole area is guarded over by our sandstone trillithon and surrounded
by ancient variety trees and shrubs. This area was born of our interest
in things Celtic and Arthurian, (we have Arthur and Guinevere sculptures
on our front gate pillars, also by the sculpture Rodney Munday. So if
you want advice on your "plot" or just need solid inspiration then come
and walk through "Gardens within Gardens" and enjoy the peace and quiet
of our little bit of English Heaven. Opening Times 9am to 5pm -7 days
a week (Sunday 10am to 5pm)
